IND vs Eng Test: The thrilling victory against India in Hadingley’s Leeds Test has topped England in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points. At the same time, the Indian team has suffered a big shock with the defeat in this first Test and it has slipped to fourth place.
The first match of the five -match Test series was played between India and England in Leeds. In the first match of the series, England have scored 12 points by defeating India by 5 wickets. With this victory, the percentage of victory of England has increased to 100. On the other hand, India has suffered a lot due to losing in this Test. After India’s defeat, no points got and its PCCC has now come down to 0.
Bangladesh-Sri Lanka status
This new Chakra of WTC started with the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Test played in Gaul from 17 June. The match played between the two teams was a draw. Both teams got 4-4 points from that match, due to which their win percentage has increased to 33.33. This is the reason that Bangladesh is currently at number two and Sri Lanka in third place in the WTC table.
Indian team position in the last two cycles of WTC
The Indian team performed brilliantly in the WTC last season, due to which India was at number 1 position in 2019-21 and the Indian team was the finalist in 2021-23. This time the team has come to fourth place in the 2023-25 cycle. Due to India’s continuous volatile performance in Tests and 6 defeats in the last 8 Tests, it has become necessary for the team to win every match to stay in the race for WTC final.
Indian team’s forward schedule
The second Test between India and England will be played from 2 July at Edgbaston, Birmingham. After this, the third match of this series will be held from July 10 to July 14 at Lord’s, the fourth match will be held in Manchester from 23 July to 27 July. The last and fifth match of this series will be played at The Oval from 31 July to 4 August.
After the tour of England, India has to play two-two Test series against West Indies and South Africa at home at the end of this year. These Tests against the West Indies will be played in Ahmedabad and Delhi, while Kolkata and Guwahati will host against South Africa.
Every match is very important for Team India. If India has to remain in the WTC 2025 final race under Gill’s captaincy, then India has no other option other than victory in the upcoming Test matches.
