
India UK Relations: Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar inaugurated India’s new Consulate General on Friday (March 7) in Belfast, Northern Ireland. This Embassy has been opened between India and Britain with the aim of further strengthening diplomatic, business and cultural relations. Many prominent leaders and dignitaries of the community were present at the inauguration ceremony. In his address, Jaishankar described the establishment of this Embassy as the beginning of a new era of Indo-Britain relations.
Jaishankar appreciated the role of the migrant Indian community in the UK on the occasion and said that the embassy will help in providing better services and facilities to the Indian community. He said that Belfast will prove to be an important center for India’s Britain and Europe policy. Accepting the contribution of overseas Indians, he said that this embassy will provide a new platform of diplomatic assistance for them.
Cooperation will increase in business and diplomacy
The Foreign Minister also said that Belfast is a strategic place in terms of trade and investment that connects India to both Britain and European Union (EU). He said that India is currently negotiating free trade agreements (FTA) with both Britain and the European Union and it is expected that these agreements will be finalized soon.
India-UK partnership will be promoted
This new initiative is likely to bring new direction to the business relations between India and Britain. The establishment of Embassy will not only promote bilateral trade but will also reveal new possibilities in the fields of education, tourism and cultural exchange. This step of the Government of India will help in the expansion of business activity in Belfast as well as improve facilities for overseas Indians.
