Former Australia captain Mark Taylor believes that Mohammed Siraj has a tendency to celebrate taking a wicket prematurely without waiting for the umpire’s decision and his senior teammates in the Indian team need to talk to the fast bowler on this issue. Should, because doing so feels bad. Taylor said that when Siraj feels that he has dismissed the batsman, he runs towards his teammates to celebrate even before the umpire’s decision.
Taylor told Nine News, “As far as Mohammed Siraj is concerned, I would like his senior teammates to talk to him. Not so much about what happened to Travis Head, but he should be talked to about the fact that when he thinks he has dismissed the batsman, he does not turn to see the umpire’s decision and starts celebrating. Let’s do it. I think it’s not a good sight for him and the game.
“I like his spirit, I like his competitive nature, I like the fact that we have a really good series going, but there’s also the respect of the game that needs to be maintained. I think talking to senior colleagues will help him understand this.”
Siraj has become a topic of discussion after having a brief argument with Head in the second test match played with pink ball in Adelaide. Australia won the match by 10 wickets and leveled the five-match series 1–1. Siraj was fined 20 percent of his match fee for this.
Former Australian batsman Simon Katich believes that Siraj’s mind did not work for some time and the Indian fast bowler later regretted it. “It is shameful that Siraj did not use his brains then,” Katich told SEN Radio. There is no need for this kind of behavior in sports.
