Australian opener Nathan McSweeney admitted that he was disappointed after not getting a place in the team for the last two matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against India but he also promised to work hard to regain his place in the team.
McSweeney has been dropped and young Sam Kontas has been given a place in the team. “Yes, I’m devastated,” McSweeney told Channel 7. My dream of playing for Australia came true but not in the way I wanted.
He said, “But this happens in sports.” I will work hard and prepare myself for the next opportunity.” 25-year-old McSweeney made his Test debut in Perth but his scores in the last six innings were 10, 0, 39, 10 not out, 9 and 4. He was dismissed by Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah four times in the series.
McSweeney said, “It’s like this in cricket.” If you don’t play well when you get a chance, your place is not safe. I missed it but now I will work hard again and make a place in the team again.” Australia’s great batsman Mike Hussey expressed sympathy with McSweeney and told Fox Cricket, ”I feel sad for him. It was a very difficult decision.
