Champions trophy: Sri Lankan legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan said here on Monday that India would need both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli runs to win the Champions Trophy. He also said that in this competition, the teams of the subcontinent will have a more balanced bowling attack.
Rohit and Kohli’s form remains a matter of discussion before the tournament of eight countries starting on February 19 in Pakistan and Dubai. Rohit indicated his return to form by scoring his 32nd ODI century against England on Sunday but Kohli has not been able to perform well since scoring an unbeaten 100 runs in the Perth Test against Australia in November.
Muralitharan said in a special conversation with ‘PTI videos’ on the sidelines of a program here, “Surely, because they are world class players. It is always said that the skill is permanent (and) form is temporary. So they will come in form. “He said,” Rohit has scored a century and Virat will also come in form. Certainly, he must be in form in this tournament to win India.
He said, “This (spin bowling) is more important because wickets in Pakistan will be helpful for spinners, even in UAE. I think the spinners will play a big role in this tournament. “Muralitharan said,” There are many good spinners in the world because if you take India, there are about four spinners in the team and if you look at Afghanistan, they also have them Good spin attack (and) even with Bangladesh. Every country in the subcontinent has good spinners. ”
Muralitharan said, “India has an all -round attack as he also has very good spinners and fast bowlers.” Even this is the case with Pakistan. The countries of the subcontinent have a balanced attack for such sports conditions. ”
