Last year also an Indian fisherman died
Earlier in 2023 also, an Indian fisherman had died in a Pakistani jail. Vinod Laxman Kol, a fisherman from Maharashtra, was arrested by Pakistani agencies in October 2022 when he allegedly went fishing in Pakistan’s territorial waters. In March 2024, he suffered a paralysis attack and after that his condition deteriorated. Finally he died on 17 March 2024. The condition of the fishermen has become more serious due to this incident because many of these fishermen are lodged in the jails of Pakistan without any concrete reason.
Release of Indian fishermen since 2014
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 2,639 Indian fishermen have been released from Pakistan since 2014, but still hundreds of Indian fishermen are lodged in Pakistani jails.
