Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has given the information.
India has lodged a protest against China claiming some areas of Ladakh as its own. The Foreign Ministry said that China has created two new counties in its Hotan province. Some part of these counties falls in Ladakh.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a media briefing on Friday-
India has never accepted China’s illegal occupation of Ladakh. China’s announcement of a new county will not affect India’s sovereignty. Nor will China’s illegal and forcible occupation of this area be recognized. We have complained about this through diplomatic channels.
Last month, China had announced the establishment of two new counties, He’an and Hekang, in Hotan province. Some areas in these provinces are part of the Indian union territory of Ladakh. India has clearly said that this area is an integral part of India and China’s claim is completely illegal.
Whereas, the second case is related to Brahmaputra river. China is building a dam on the Brahmaputra river, about which India has expressed objection.
China is going to build the biggest dam on Brahmaputra river.
India expressed concern over building a dam on the Brahmaputra river.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday that we have heard that China is working on a project related to power generation on the Yarlup Tyangpo (Brahmaputra) river in Tibet.
The spokesperson said that India gets the water of this river downstream and we use it, hence we have continuously expressed concern to the Chinese side through diplomatic channels. We have urged the Chinese side not to harm the interests of the downstream states of Brahmaputra by these activities.
This is the Yarlung Tsangpo river flowing in Tibet which comes to India and is called Brahmaputra.
China is building the world’s largest dam
According to reports, China is building the world’s largest dam in the Tibetan area. This dam will be built on Yarlung Tsangpo river. This river becomes Brahmaputra in India and is called Jumna River in Bangladesh. China has recently approved this dam project.
China will spend $137 billion on the project, which is located in the earthquake-prone Himalayan region. Experts from India and Bangladesh had also expressed many concerns regarding the news of China building a dam on this river. However, China has defended this dam project.
China said that this project is absolutely safe. It is being built after several decades of research. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said that China has always borne the responsibility of developing cross-border rivers. He said that hydropower development in Tibet has been approved after decades of in-depth study. Its construction will not affect the people living in the lower areas.
Spokesman Mao had said that China is ready to continue talks with the border countries. He also said that China will work with countries located along the lower rivers to help in earthquake and disaster management so that people living along the river banks can benefit.
