
Iran has threatened to kill Nargis Mohammadi, an Iranian worker. This information has been given by the Nobel Committee on Friday (July 11, 2025). According to the Nobel Committee, Nargis Mohammadi has been awarded the Nobel Prize in the year 2023 for fighting for women and human rights in Iran.
Nargis Mohammadi has spent most of the last decade in jail, which was released from Evin Jail in Tehran for some time in December 2024 last year. However, his legal team has repeatedly warned him that he can be arrested again at any time.
Nobel Committee Chairman released a statement
Jorgen Vatne Friedness, chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, said in a statement that he had received an active phone call from Nargis Mohammadi. 53 -year -old Mohammadi told Friedness on the phone that now his life is in danger. He said, “It is a clear message stated in his own words that I have been threatened by the agents of Iranian rule directly and indirectly.”
The chairman of the committee further said in his statement, “The threats to Nargis Mohammadi have made it clear that until it does not fully eliminate its presence in the media as well as in support of all its public activities within Iran and the freedom of democracy, human rights and expression, as well as his presence in the media, their security will remain in danger.”
The Nobel Committee said, “We are extremely upset about the threats given to Nargis Mohammadi and all Iranian citizens, who have raised our voice against Iran’s rule.” The committee requested the Iranian officials to not only ensure the safety of these people’s lives, but also protect their freedom of expression.
Nargis received the Nobel Prize while staying in jail
Nargis Mohammadi has faced many cases to be widely given death sentence in Iran and campaigning against the compulsory dress code for women. Along with this, he has been imprisoned several times for this. At the same time, she was mainly awarded the Nobel Prize for raising voice against the oppression of women in Iran. When she was nominated for the Nobel Prize, she was in jail in Iran, so her children received this honor on her behalf.
