External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is on American tour, said on Wednesday that we are ready for the return of Indian citizens living illegally in America. The External Affairs Minister described India’s stand on this issue as stable and principled. Jaishankar has talked to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding this.
Jaishankar gave this information during a press conference in Washington. During the conference Jaishankar said,

We believe that if our citizens are living here illegally and it is decided that they are our citizens, then we are always ready for their return.
He said that India strongly opposes illegal migration, it is not good for the countries image as it promotes illegal activities.
Jaishankar had come to attend the swearing-in of US President Donald Trump. He also handed over a letter from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Trump.

Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of America on January 20.
18 thousand Indians will be deported from America
18 thousand Indians living illegally in America will return to their country. According to the report of American website Bloomberg, he does not have American citizenship and does not even have the correct documents to obtain citizenship there.
Last month, the government agency that deals with illegal immigrants in America (ICE) had made a list of about 15 lakh people who are living in America illegally. 18 thousand Indians are part of this list.
According to US government data, 3,86,000 people were granted H-1B visas in 2023, about three-fourths of whom are Indian citizens.

Discussion on Bangladesh with US Foreign Minister and NSA
During the conference, Jaishankar said that he had briefly discussed the issue of Bangladesh with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. Journalists had asked Jaishankar about the discussion related to the situation of minorities in Bangladesh.
The Foreign Minister was also asked about the attacks on Indian Consulates. Jaishankar said that this issue has not been discussed. He said-

I did not raise these issues on this occasion. But I must say that the attack on our Consulate in San Francisco is a very serious matter. We expect accountability in this case and want those responsible to be brought to justice.
According to Jaishankar, there was no discussion between India and America on the Adani issue.
