After the photo of former President and founder of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was removed from currency notes, ‘Joy Bangla’ will no longer be the national slogan of the country. The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has given this decision on the petition of Mohammad Yunus government. The government had challenged the decision of the High Court, in which Joy Bangla was ordered to be made the national slogan and used in all the programs of the government, against which the government had filed a special petition in the Supreme Court.< /p>
After the coup in Bangladesh in August and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fleeing the country, the Mohammad Yunus government is making major changes. This month, Mujibur Rahman’s photo has been removed from the currency notes and the process of printing religious structures, Bengali traditions and ‘graffiti’ made during the student movement in July has been started on the notes. Now there is preparation to change the national slogan.
On Tuesday (December 10, 2024), Supreme Court Chief Justice Syed Rifat Ahmed has ruled on the government’s petition that ‘Joy Bangla’ is no longer the national slogan of the country. Additional Attorney General Anik R Haq, who appeared in the court to present the government’s side, said that after the order of the Supreme Court, Joy Bangla will not be considered as the national slogan."text-align: justify;">Earlier in its order dated March 10, 2022, the bench of High Court judge Justice FRM Nazmul Ashan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader had declared Joy Bangla as the national slogan of the country and ordered that it be used in the assemblies of all programs and educational institutions of the country. This slogan should be used, against which the government had filed a petition on 2 December. First of all, in the year 2017, Supreme Court lawyer Dr. Bashir Ahmed had filed a writ petition demanding that it be declared a national slogan.
