Kangana Ranaut’s long-delayed political drama ‘Emergency’ hit theaters across India today, January 17. However, according to the latest reports, the film has already been leaked online on various piracy platforms and is available for ‘free downloads’.
News of the leak comes on the day of the film’s worldwide release today, January 17. Buzz is that the film was leaked on piracy sites including Tamilrockers, Movierulz, Moviesda, and Filmyzilla, just hours after its theatrical debut this Friday morning.
Reports state that keywords such as “Emergency Movie Download,” “Emergency Movie HD Download,” among others, have been trending online.

These pirated copies are reportedly being circulated in various formats, including 1080p, 720p, 480p, and even HD formats.Is it unclear if the leak will affect the box office numbers of the film. According to reports, the movie is off to a slow start, with reports suggesting that the film will likely earn around Rs 75 lakh on its opening day. However, the film’s Rs 99 ticket pricing is expected to boost sales.
In the film, Ranaut, who is also the director and producer, takes on the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, while Anupam Kher portrays Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade plays the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Vishak Nair stars as Sanjay Gandhi.
The movie reportedly focuses on the 21-month period of Emergency imposed from 1975 to 1977 and its far-reaching consequences. The ensemble cast also includes Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, Ashok Chhabra as Morarji Desai, and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram.
Originally slated for release on September 6, 2024, the film faced delays due to the elections and later due to pending clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
