Kartik Aaryan had played the role of para-olympic champion Murlikant PetkarHe was India’s first Paralympic gold medalist and Kartik had portrayed him in the film ‘Chandu Champion‘ which was directed by Kabir Khan. It has now been announced that Petkar will be conferred with Arjuna Lifetime Award For his contribution to Sports.
Kartik who played him in the film, has now reacted to this Award. As quoted by ANI, Kartik said, “So, so, so happy to hear this news! While working on his biographyI came to know about his life in such great detail and up close and personal that his win feels deeply personal. He has remained unbreakable and solid throughout his life, despite all the challenges destiny threw at him. I have met many sports personalities, but Murlikant sir’s sportsmanship and headstrong attitude are unmatched. Hearing about this honor is the best way to start the year. Murlikant sir, you are our country’s finest champion – truly one of a kind.”
Earlier while promoting ‘Chandu Champion’, Kartik had spoken to ETimes about his preparation for this role. When asked if the role was physically more demanding or emotionally, Kartik said, “Both of them (emotionally and physically getting into the part) were difficult and they were co-related. Building this body was a work of a lot of patience and it Took really long I had never imagined a film like this and this is something I’ve never attempted. way possible. We did a lot of workshops, reading sessions.”
He further had added, “We did a lot of workshops with a dialect expert to get the Marathi lingo and to not overdo it. There’s always a thin line between making it sound correct and overdoing it. It’s been quite a while that we started prepping All said and done, I’m really proud of this film.”
