Karun Nair Vijay Hazare Trophy: Vidarbha’s powerful captain Karun Nair has created history in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Nair held the record of scoring the most runs in List A cricket without losing his wicket. He achieved this feat on January 3 in the match played between Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha, where he scored his third consecutive century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Nair has seven centuries in List A cricket. Out of which he has scored 4 centuries in the last eight days.
Nair played captaincy innings and scored 112 runs for Vidarbha, which was chasing the target of 308 runs against UP. This year he was out for the first time in Vijay Hazare Trophy. He got caught out by Atal Bihari Rai of UP. For Vidarbha, opener Yash Rathore also scored a century. Rathod and Nair together made a partnership of 228 runs and easily helped the team reach a difficult target. As soon as Nair reached the score of 70, he became the first Indian batsman to score 500 runs in List A without losing a wicket.
33-year-old Karun Nair has been in excellent form throughout the tournament. He started the Vijay Hazare Trophy by scoring unbeaten 112 runs against Jammu and Kashmir. After this he was unbeaten on 44 runs against Chhattisgarh. After this Nair scored consecutive centuries. He played a blazing unbeaten inning of 163 runs against Chandigarh. After this, he played an important role in taking the team to number one in Group E by playing a brilliant unbeaten inning of 111 runs against Tamil Nadu.
After this inning, Nair also broke the 13-year-old record in List A. New Zealand’s James Franklin made the record in 2010 by scoring 527 runs without losing a wicket. Having scored triple centuries in Tests for India, Team India has failed to make a place in Team India and IPL for a long time. This year he was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 50 lakh. Under the captaincy of Karun Nair, Vidarbha is continuously performing well and creating problems for other teams.
