
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday termed the incident of alleged attempt to damage the statue of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar in Amritsar as a ‘matter of sorrow’ and asked Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal to go to Punjab and demand the Constitution. Demanded the producer to apologize and resign from his post. Addressing a press conference at the Delhi Pradesh BJP office located on Pandit Pant Marg in the capital, the party’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra also alleged that the incident that happened in Amritsar could not have happened without Kejriwal’s consent.
Police on Sunday arrested a man from Punjab’s Moga district who allegedly attempted to damage the statue of Ambedkar installed at the Town Hall on Heritage Street leading to the Golden Temple. Amritsar Police Commissionerate has registered an FIR and arrested the accused. A purported video of the incident surfaced on social media, in which a man carrying a hammer is seen approaching the statue using a long steel ladder and trying to break it with the hammer.
What happened in Amritsar could not have happened without Kejriwal’s consent.
Patra said, ‘It is a very sad matter. This ‘heartbreaking’ news came the morning after the 76th Republic Day was celebrated. He said, ‘Whatever has happened in Amritsar today could not have happened without Kejriwal’s consent… Baba Saheb has been disrespected. Therefore, Kejriwal should immediately go to Punjab and apologize and resign from the post immediately. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has condemned the incident and said that strict action will be taken in the matter.
Incident right under the nose of Punjab administration
BJP spokesperson said, ‘This incident happened right under the nose of the Punjab administration. When this whole process was going on, how many policemen and policemen would have been present there but no one tried to stop it. He asked what kind of conspiracy is this that Baba Saheb was insulted in front of the police station. Referring to the Delhi Assembly elections, Patra said that in reality the election is ‘people versus bail’ as all the ‘so-called big leaders’ of AAP are on bail today.
BJP spokesperson Patra also targeted Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and said that he was avoiding election campaign in Delhi citing ill health but at Congress’s ‘Jai Bapu-Jai Bhim-Jai Constitution’ rally in Mhow near Indore.
