Kerala man shot dead: A Kerala person was shot dead on behalf of the security forces on the Jordan border. The deceased has been identified as Thomas Gabriel Perera (47), a resident of Thumba near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The incident took place from 10 February 2025, when Thomas and some other people who accompanied him were trying to cross the Jordan border illegally.
According to media reports, Thomas and his three fellow tourists went to Jordan on a visa. During the incident, security forces warned them in an attempt to cross the border in Karak district of Jordan, which they ignored. Subsequently, security forces opened fire on them. A bullet hit Thomas’s head, causing him to die on the spot. A person named Edison (43), who was present with Thomas, was also injured, but his condition is now fine. Edison is also a resident of Thumba and has recently returned to Kerala two days ago.
The Embassy has learned of the sad dimise of an Indian national in unfortunate circumstans. The Embassy is in touch with the family of the decision and is working closely with jordanian authorities for transportation of Mortal remains of the decision. @MEAIndia

Family received information
Thomas’s family received a letter from the Indian Embassy in Amman, Jordan, stating that Thomas and Edison were trying to cross the border illegally. The letter also states that Thomas’s body has been kept in the local hospital and after verification, the process of bringing his body to India will be done.
Jordan went on 5 February
Four people, including Thomas and Edison, went to Jordan on a tourist visa on 5 February. He was helped by a Kerala resident working in Jordan. After the incident, family members said that they were told that Thomas and Edison had probably tried to enter Israel, during which security forces fired on them.
Jordan’s Karak province
Jordan’s Karak province is bordering the deceased Sea in the west and is taken from Madaba and Rajdhani province in the north. The nearest border point in Karak province is near the deceased Sea near the Israeli border, where the incident happened.
