Virat Kohli is ready to play his 300th ODI on Sunday and New Zealand all -rounder Glenn Philips said that the ‘heritage’ of India’s star batsman will continue to shine for many years and would ‘inspire’ generations of young cricketers.
Kohli will become the seventh Indian players to achieve this feat after legendary cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh.
Philips used to play with Kohli in the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Royal Challengers Bangalore. He said, “He is definitely a great player. And it is great for me to know them a little bit. ,
He said before the match against India in the New Zealand’s Champions Trophy, “He is a very hardworking player and what he has done for sports but for Indian cricket and for young players is very spectacular.” ,
The New Zealand all -rounder said that playing 300 ODIs is a big achievement when T20 cricket is being emphasized in modern times.
He said, “I think his legacy will be remembered for a long time in future, which will inspire many people. And playing 300 ODIs is a big achievement, especially in today’s era where ODI cricket is not played as before. So it is really fantastic for them. Philips “hoped that New Zealand senior player Kane Williamson would also join Kohli in the case of scoring runs soon.
