Lanka T10 Galle Marvels Owner Prem Thakkur Arrested: A big case of corruption has come to light in the Lanka T10 Super League tournament. Galle Marvels team owner Prem Thakkar has been arrested on match fixing charges. This incident happened just a day after the start of the tournament, due to which questions are being raised on the credibility of the tournament. Thakkar was detained on Thursday from a hotel in Kandy, Sri Lanka. On Friday, he was produced in the Colombo Magistrate Court, from where he was sent to judicial custody till December 16.
According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, Sri Lankan police said that Indian citizen Prem Thakkar has been arrested under the 2019 Sports Crime Prevention Act of Sri Lanka. This law was made to stop match fixing and corruption related to sports. Police said that Thakkar was arrested on the complaint of a foreign player, who had accused Thakkar of offering match fixing.
Strict law against fixing in Sri Lanka
This is not the first time that a case of match fixing has come to light in a franchise tournament in Sri Lanka. In May this year, Tamim Rahman, co-owner of Lanka Premier League (LPL) Dambulla Thunders team, was also arrested on match-fixing charges. In 2019, Sri Lanka became the first country in South Asia to criminalize corruption in sports. Under this law, there is a provision of ten years in jail and heavy fine if found guilty.

Lanka T10 Super League is the first T10 franchise tournament of Sri Lanka. It is organized by global groups like Innovative Production Group, T10 Sports Management and T10 Global Sports. These companies have organized many successful T10 leagues across the world.
