Champions trophy: India’s star batsman Virat Kohli said that the lesson learned from the defeat in the knockout stage in the past in ICC competitions is that the team managed to win the second big title within 12 months.
India won the T20 World Cup in June last year and won the Champions Trophy for the third time on Sunday. All the members of the team led by Rohit Sharma made significant contribution to these victories.
Kohli told the official broadcaster, “It was a long time to win the Champions Trophy and this format is really good. It was our goal to win it. After Australia’s tough tour, we came here and we won a big tournament which has boosted our morale as a team.
He said, “In the entire tournament, different players went ahead and faced the challenge in different matches. In the past competitions, we were unable to make a positive end of the match or could not take advantage of important occasions. But this time we performed well by learning from those experiences. ”Rohit and KL Rahul’s experience in the final against New Zealand was used, which led the Indian team to get out of the difficult situation and win.
Kohli said, “This is the reason why you support experienced players. They have faced such circumstances in the past and when you move forward with those learns and work hard, you can turn the dice of the match. ”
He said, “The way Rahul made a good end of the last two matches, his experience is revealed. When you have faced such circumstances in the past and are unable to make a positive end of the match, then you again want to face that kind of circumstances and end it well and we did the same.
India’s team combination was very good and the decision to play with four spinners in Dubai circumstances proved to be correct. Kohli said, “We paid attention to our skills throughout the tournament. We did not pay attention to how good the opposing team is. We paid attention to how good our team is. Despite all the challenges, you play only to play in these big competitions. ”
Kohli, who was part of the Indian team that won the One Day World Cup 2011 and the Champions Trophy 2013, said, “Winning four ICC titles is not really less than any blessing. I consider myself very lucky to play for so long and achieve it. ”
