California Wildfire: The Palisades area, located about 32 kilometers from Los Angeles, has been devastated by a massive fire that broke out earlier this week. Due to the fire, the houses of many famous personalities were burnt to ashes and there was huge damage to property worth billions of dollars. The homes of Hollywood celebrities like Paris Hilton and Billy Crystal are located in this area. This fire was so devastating that only a few houses in the entire area were saved.
Indian-American Moira Shourie, who lives in Palisades, told PTI, “This is a terrible devastation.” Most of the houses in the area have been burnt to ashes and only a few houses have been saved in some small areas.” Shourie described his situation as extremely difficult and said that he and his family had to leave their house two days ago. He is currently taking shelter in a hotel in Los Angeles.
Huge loss to families of Indian origin
During the fire, sparks flying with the wind were reaching hundreds of meters high in the sky. Shourie said trying to put out the fire was “like trying to stop a hurricane.” He also said that usually planes are used to control such fires, but this time no such plane was deployed. Despite the efforts of fire officials, the situation appeared to be out of control.
Many families of Indian origin have also come under the grip of this fire. These families have lost their property and homes. An Indian-origin resident said, “It was so good that people came out of their homes on time, which reduced the loss of life.” However, it may take three to five years for these families to recover. So far, 10 people have died in the area affected by this fire and at least 10,000 houses and buildings have been burnt to ashes.
What did President Joe Biden say?
In view of this dire situation, US President Joe Biden canceled his trip to Italy and Vatican City. He said the devastation caused by the fires in California is “extremely horrific”. Biden also assured that the US government is taking all possible steps to help the victims.
