According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred about 100 km (62 mi) north-east from the main island. The Pacific Ocean Tsunami Warning Center said that dangerous waves could arise within the scope of 300 km (185 mi) from the center of the earthquake.

In this way, there have been 4 earthquakes with more than 5 intensity in the last 3 days. The epicenter of the earthquake was about 17 miles (27 km) north of Mandalay in Myanmar.
