After the birth of a child, many women have to face many mental problems. Not only this, some women suffer from many diseases even after the birth of a child, like high BP, diabetes, thyroid and other problems. Women who are not properly taken care of after the birth of a child often suffer from depression.
Why does a mother need care before and after childbirth?
Many women experience depression after having a child because they do not get proper care during or after having a child. It is important to take good care of both the child and the mother in order to remain healthy. In this, you should get regular check-ups and blood tests done from your OB-GYN doctor, avoid substances like drugs, alcohol or nicotine. It is very important for the well-being of both mother and fetus.
Mother’s care is very important not only before the birth of the child but also after. Postnatal care is as important as prenatal care. After making sure that the child is healthy. Mother should be given attention and healthy diet should be taken care of. All needs of the mother and baby should be attended to by a loved one or a medical professional and some light exercise should be done on the advice of the doctor.
In India, 22% of new mothers experience some form of postpartum depression (PPD), which means many mothers go through mood swings after childbirth. As a result they remain sad or worried. This can happen for many reasons, but in most cases it is estimated that there is a change in fertility hormones after delivery. PPD can be managed with non-pharmacological treatment (love and care), counseling as well as antidepressant medications at the doctor’s discretion.
