ICC Meeting: The meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) board with Champions Trophy broadcaster Star Sports to discuss the modalities and possible schedule of hosting the tournament in a hybrid model was postponed till Saturday. Sources gave this information.
In another interesting move, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) joint secretary Devjit Lone Saikia represented India at the Board of Directors meeting on Thursday.
Jay Shah reached ICC headquarters for the first time after becoming chairman
Former BCCI secretary Jay Shah visited the ICC headquarters for the first time as the chairman of the global governing body on Thursday. Shah met the board of directors, which included Bangladesh’s Farooq Ahmed, New Zealand’s Roger Twose, ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardyce, Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja, Zimbabwe’s Twengwa Mukuhlani, UAE’s Mubashir Usmani, Sri Lanka’s Shammi Silva, South Africa’s Dr. Mohammed Abdul Samad Moosajee and Mahinda Vallipuram of Malaysia were included. All of them were present in Dubai.
No one from PCB reached
This meeting session was actually a platform for all like-minded cricket boards to express their support to the new ICC Chairman for the ‘Hybrid Model’. Representatives from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Cricket Australia and Cricket West Indies were not present in person, while no one from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) came.
Pakistan’s absurd demand
It is understood that a large number of ICC Board members are going to reject the demand of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for ‘Fusion Model’ and at the same time, Pakistan will not be given any assurance that the future in India. ICC tournaments will be organized under the ‘Hybrid Model’. Under this model, Pakistan is demanding to hold all the matches of its team in some other country during the ICC tournaments to be held in India.
What about the broadcaster?
The only thing where the PCB can get some benefit is additional compensation. Already the broadcasters have given in writing that Champions Trophy cannot be organized without India and India-Pakistan group league match is also mandatory as it will bring them revenue.
