Belgian Foreign Ministry informed about Choksi’s presence in the country in the official statement. Also said- He has full attention to the matter and it is also being given importance.
However, Belgium said- they do not comment on personal matters. Nevertheless, Foreign Affairs is constantly monitoring the events in this important matter. According to media reports, India has contacted Belgium officials to start the process of extradition of Choksi.
Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi are accused of scam of Rs 13,850 crore at Punjab National Bank’s Brady House Branch in Mumbai. Earlier, Choksi had made an excuse not to return to India due to passport suspended.

The accused was living in Antigua-Barbuda before Belgium Even before leaving India in 2018, Choksi took citizenship of Antigua-Barbuda in 2017 itself. Mehul Choksi used to refuse to come on a muscle in India by citing poor health repeatedly. Sometimes he is produced through video conferencing. Many of his properties have also been seized in India.

A CBI team reached Dominica to get him extradited, but before that he got relief from the British Queen’s Privy Council. He was later handed over to Antigua.
However, Mehul Choksi had to spend 51 days in Dominica jail. Here he had argued that he wants to go to Antigua and treat a neurologist there. A few days after reaching Antigua, the Dominica court also dismissed the case filed against Choksi.

Choksi gets refuge in Belgium from fake documents According to media reports, Mehul Choksi submitted false and fake documents to get a residence in Belgium. He hid his Indian and Antigua’s citizenship and gave false information so that he could not be sent to India. The report also claimed that Mehul Choksi is now planning to go to Switzerland. He has made an excuse for treatment at the Cancer Hospital.
