Last year Bangladesh demanded extradition

Hasina’s passport has been canceled
The interim government has already canceled the passports of Hasina and 96 others in the case of forced disappearance and alleged involvement in the killings in July. In December, Bangladesh had officially demanded Hasina’s return to the country to prosecute allegations of mass murders during the anti-discrimination student movement called ‘July-August Rebellion’. Bangladesh’s International Crime Tribunal has so far issued two arrest warrants. It was originally formed to prosecute people who were staunch colleagues in the atrocities of Pakistani soldiers during the 1971 liberation struggle. Hasina has been ordered to be arrested and produced in court by 12 February as she is also accused of forcibly disappearing people during the last 16 years of rule.

Court acquitted 47 people
Meanwhile, the High Court on Wednesday acquitted all the 47 people convicted in the attack on the train carrying the then Leader of Opposition Hasina in Ishvardi on 23 September 1994. A bench of Justice Muhammad Mehboob ul Islam and Muhammad Hamidur Rahman gave the verdict after hearing the appeals of the culprits. Describing the decision of the lower court as inhuman, the High Court ordered the immediate release of those acquitted. The Nichli court sentenced nine people to death, 25 people life imprisonment and 13 others to 10 years in jail. .
When Hasina was traveling by train from Khulna to Syedpur, the train was attacked with indigenous bombs and bullets. The police filed a charge sheet against 52 workers of Bangladesh Nationalist Party on 4 April 1997.
