Myanmar earthquake: On Friday (March 28, 2025), the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar led to an equal energy to 334 atomic bombs. It has been claimed by geologist Jess Phoenix. He has also warned that the tremors of the earthquake can continue for months as the Indian tectonic plate collides with the Eurasian plate.
More than 1,700 people have been killed and more than 3,400 people are injured in this disaster. At the same time, many people are missing and due to search and rescue efforts, this number is expected to increase further. In Mandalay, the second largest city of Myanmar, many residents have become homeless. On Sunday too, a 5.1 magnificent shock occurred.
Myanmar’s civil war made rescue operations complicated
The ongoing civil war in Myanmar has made the rescue operation more complicated. Phoenix told CNN, “The situation that is generally difficult becomes almost impossible.” Myanmar has been entangled in civil struggle since gaining independence in 1948, demanding various ethnic groups of autonomy.
The situation became even more serious after the military coup on 1 February 2021, which removed the elected government and gave rise to widespread opposition and armed resistance from more than 2,600 rebel groups. Mandalay Airport has been damaged and the control tower of NPV’s airport has collapsed, which has stopped commercial flights.
Myanmar is getting help from many countries
Many countries have collected assistance. India has sent a field hospital and two C-17 military transport aircraft carrying emergency medical personnel. China has sent over 135 rescue personnel and promised $ 13.8 million for emergency relief. Russia has deployed 120 rescue teams and medical teams. For the coordination of human affairs, the United Nations Office has reported widespread destruction of health facilities, causing the crisis worse.
