- New Railway Rules: Compulsory Aadhaar Authentication for Tatkal Tickets from July 1

Indian Railways has announced that only Aadhaar authenticated users will be able to book Tatkal tickets from July 1. With this rule, needy and right passengers will be able to get confirmed tickets. This will curb fake ID, rigging of agents and booking of bots and it will be easy for common passengers to get confirmed tickets.
The Railway Ministry has also said that from July 15, 2025, passengers will also have to follow the additional Aadhaar-Based OTP authentication step to book immediately.
In the instructions issued to all railway zones, the Railway Ministry has said that the purpose of this rule is to ensure that the general users can get the benefit of the scheme immediately.
According to the official notification issued by the Railways, ‘Only Aadhaar authenticated users will be able to book through the IRCM’s website and its app under the Tatkal Scheme from 01 -07-2025.
What are the new railway rules?
- From 1 July 2025, under the Tatkal scheme, train tickets can be booked only from IRCTC website and mobile app. This facility will only be for those passengers who have completed their Aadhaar Authentication. From July 15, 2025, passengers will also have to undergo additional base-based OTP authentication step to book immediately.
- Authorized ticketing agents have been imposed some restrictions for immediate booking. The agents will be banned during the first 30 -minute window to book first day Tatkal tickets. This ban will be for AC class from 10:00 am to 10:30 am and for non-AC class from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.

answer: This step has been taken to prevent black marketing of Tatkal tickets and booking from fake IDs. According to the Railways, more than half of the online Tatkal tickets are sold within 10 minutes of the window opening, which includes a large number of agents and bots. In the last one year, IRCTC has been of 3.5 crore fake user ID blocks.
