
Champions trophy: Nitin Menon, India’s only representative in the umpires of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Elite Panel umpires, has opted to exit the umpiring in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan this month.
The ICC on Wednesday announced the list of 15 match officers including three match referees and 12 umpires, which will be an officer of the tournament to start in Karachi on 19 February, which will be finalized on March 9.
David Boon of Australia, Ranjan Madugale of Sri Lanka and Andrew Picroft of Zimbabwe have been nominated as a match referee for eight teams tournaments. The tournament will be held in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi at three places in Pakistan, while India will play all their matches in Dubai due to security concerns in which will start on 20 February against Bangladesh.
A source in the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) told PTI, “The ICC wanted to include them in the team of the Champions Trophy. But he decided not to go to Pakistan for personal reasons. ”Menon could not be umpires in matches in Dubai as the ICC follows the policy of appointment of neutral umpires. The world institution in its statement to release the list of officers did not comment on Menon.
The three matches selected for the tournament are experienced. The ICC said in a release, “A iconic panel of 12 umpires would umpire in this tournament of eight teams, of which six umpires were included in the 2017 phase, including Richard Catelboro who have umpiring in the final of the previous Champions Trophy. . ,
