1400 minor girls became victims of the scandal
The town of Rotherham in Yorkshire faced Britain’s most serious child sexual abuse case between 1997 and 2013. An independent investigation found that at least 1,400 underage girls were victims of sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013. In this, most of the girls were lured and trafficked through an organized gang.
Elon Musk sharply criticized Keir Starmer
Elon Musk, owner of social media platform X, has sharply criticized the role of PM Keir Starmer during the Pakistani grooming gang scandal. Elon Musk has also taken aim at Starmer over her tenure as head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) from 2008 to 2013. Musk alleged that even after the victims came forward repeatedly, law enforcement agencies and social service providers continuously failed to take appropriate action in this case and protect the children. The gang also used threats and physical violence to control the girls.
Objection expressed on calling it grooming gang
In his post, Elon Musk addressed the grooming gang as a rape gang. He said: ‘In the UK, police need approval from the Crown Prosecution Service to charge suspects with serious crimes such as sexual assault and when these cases came to light, who was the head of the CPS at the time?’ At the same time, author JK Rowling objected to the criminals in this case being called grooming gangs.
