Qatar Mosque Plan: Muslim country Qatar earns huge income from oil and gas. This country is investing on a large scale in the project of establishing Islamic Caliphate. Former Portuguese ambassador and politician Antonio Correa has made this claim. According to him, Qatar is using the billions of dollars received from gas exports to advance its political and religious agenda.
Antonio Correa said that international events, such as the football World Cup, should not be held in Qatar. Such events provide Qatar with a global platform from which it tries to spread its ideology. Giving an example, he said that Qatar had tried to buy a bullfight ring in Barcelona, Spain. Qatar had plans to convert this place into Europe’s largest mosque. If this plan had been successful, this mosque would have been the third largest mosque in the world.
Attempt to re-establish the Caliphate
The Portuguese politician claimed that Qatar dreams of re-establishing the caliphate. Supporting his point, he said that he has served as ambassador to Qatar and has seen the situation there closely. He told that laborers working in Qatar are mistreated. Their passports and other documents are confiscated. Workers are forced to live in extremely poor conditions, making them victims of modern slavery.
Controversy over buying bullring
According to media reports in 2014, Qatar had offered $2.2 billion (about Rs 187.24 billion) to buy the bullfight ring “La Monumentar” located in Barcelona, Spain. His main goal was to turn it into the largest mosque in Europe. This mosque could have become a symbol of religious and cultural influence not only in Europe, but globally.
