Indian opener Prithvi Shaw was dropped from the Mumbai squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day cricket tournament on Tuesday as his performance continues to be poor. Troubled by this, the player was forced to ask, ‘What else do I want to see?’
This tournament is starting from 21st December. The current season has been one to forget for 25-year-old Prithvi, who was once one of India’s most talented players and scored a century on Test debut.
Prithvi was dropped midway through the Ranji Trophy league stage due to fitness and disciplinary reasons but returned to the team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which Mumbai won. Even in the IPL auction in November, no franchise bid for him.
Even in the top domestic competition, his performance was not impressive. He got off to a good start on a few occasions but failed to score a half-century. Prithvi wrote on Instagram, “Lord tell me, what else do I have to see? Despite 3399 runs (in Vijay Hazare) in 65 innings, an average of 55.7 and a strike rate of 126, I am not good enough. But I will keep my faith in you and hopefully people will still believe in me because I will definitely make a comeback. Om Sai Ram.”
Shreyas Iyer will lead the 17-member team which has been selected for the first three matches. Experienced spinner Shams Mulani has also not got a place in the team. Ajinkya Rahane led the team in the last season of the Vijay Hazare tournament.
India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has also got a place in the team. Mumbai will start their campaign against Karnataka on December 21 in Ahmedabad.
Shreyas Iyer (captain), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Jai Bista, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dubey, Suryansh Shedge, Siddhesh Lad, Hardik Tamore, Prasad Pawar, Atharva Ankolekar, Tanush Kotian, Shardul Thakur, Royston Dias, Junaid Khan, Harsh Tanna. And Vinayak Bhor.
