12th April 2018. An elderly man reached Gandhinagar police station in Jaipur. Said to the sentry standing at the police station gate, ‘Sir, I have to file a missing report.’
The jawan asked him to meet the duty officer. Seeing the duty officer busy in talking, the man started looking around uneasily. Upon seeing the Sub Inspector asked, ‘Tell me sir, what’s the matter?’
‘SHO sir, my son’s wife is missing, there is no trace of where she has gone.’
‘How long has he been missing?’ the duty officer asked.
‘Sir, he has been missing since a day ago.’
‘She must have been living with your son, then how did she disappear?’ The duty officer looked at her face and asked, ‘Is it possible that she has gone with someone of her own free will?’
‘No police officer, there is nothing like that.’ The man reassured the duty officer and said, ‘My son is an inspector in the Income Tax Department. His posting is in Vadodara, Gujarat. My daughter-in-law was preparing for the teacher recruitment examination by staying in a girls hostel here in Bapunagar, Jaipur.
Munesh used to prepare by staying in a girls hostel in Jaipur, while Lokesh Chaudhary was on duty in Vadodara, Gujarat.
The duty officer gave a paper to the man and said, ‘Please give your written report, we will definitely file a report and search for your daughter-in-law.’
That person took the paper and wrote an application in the name of the police station in-charge. The duty officer took a cursory look at that application.
The person who came to file the report was Brijendra Singh, a resident of Kathumar in Alwar district. His son Lokesh Chaudhary was an inspector in the Income Tax Department.
Lokesh Choudhary lived there as he was posted in Vadodara city of Gujarat. Lokesh was married to Munesh, daughter of Ramkumar Sinsinwar, resident of Sinsini village in Bharatpur district, a year and a quarter ago.
Munesh was preparing for teacher recruitment exam. For this, she lived in a hostel located on D-126 Krishna Marg in Bapunagar, Jaipur. Munesh suddenly went missing from this hostel on 11 April 2018.
On April 12, 2018, a case of missing Munesh was registered at Gandhinagar police station on the written report of Brijendra Singh. In the report, Brijendra Singh had not expressed any suspicion on anyone in the disappearance of his bride, hence the police started a general investigation.
The very next day after Munesh’s missing report was filed, her husband Lokesh Chaudhary came to Jaipur and met the police officers. Requested to search for his wife. The police officers understood the problem and gave assurance. Also assured him of all possible help. Still no trace of Munesh was found anywhere.
After 1-2 days, Lokesh again met the top police officers of Jaipur Commissionerate. Complaining to him, he said that Gandhinagar police station is not searching for his wife properly. Lokesh said that Munesh has been kidnapped. He repeatedly met police officers and started pressurizing them to search for his wife.
Lokesh went to Jaipur Police Commissionerate and requested the officers to search for his wife.
The then Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Kunwar Rashtradeep led a team of Inspector Surendra Singh, Sub Inspector Krishna Kumar, Constable Omprakash and Narendra Kumar under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Hanuman Prasad Meena and Gandhinagar Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajpal Godara to search for Munesh. Formed a team.
The police team examined the footage of CCTV cameras around the hostel. Call details of mobile numbers of other suspects including Munesh and Lokesh Chaudhary were also obtained. The police also traced the friends of Munesh and Lokesh. Also got the old history of both of them known. In the investigation conducted so far, the police officers had started considering the case of Munesh’s disappearance as suspicious. But no clue could be found.
The police was busy investigating to get to the bottom of the matter when on April 21, Munesh’s father Ramkumar Sinsinwar gave a written report at the Gandhinagar police station. Told that my daughter Munesh is missing since 11th April. When my son-in-law Lokesh came to Jaipur, we asked him to get his mobile checked. On this Lokesh formatted his mobile and deleted the data.
Munesh’s father wrote in the report that Lokesh and his family members used to harass his daughter for dowry. In February this year, he broke Munesh’s FD worth Rs 10 lakh and got the money withdrawn. It was further written in the report that Lokesh and his family members have conspired to kidnap and murder my daughter Munesh. A case was registered on this same day in Gandhinagar police station.
After the complaint of Munesh’s father, the police had understood that this was not an ordinary missing person. The investigation of the case was handed over to IPS officer Kavendra Singh Sagar, the then Assistant Commissioner of Police (Trainee), Malviya Nagar. He collected information about Lokesh Chaudhary as soon as the report was filed. Found out that he was in Jaipur only. On the same day i.e. on 21st April, the police brought Lokesh Chaudhary to the police station and interrogated him. Many questions were asked to him based on his history and mobile call details.
When asked by the police, Lokesh initially maintained that he was clean, but due to his repeatedly changing statements, the suspicion of the police deepened. He could not stand before the police for long. He confessed that he had killed his wife Munesh.
The police officers were stunned by this sensational revelation of Lokesh. Till now, the Income Tax Inspector who was accusing the police of laxity in the case by creating a drama of his wife’s disappearance, had actually murdered his wife 10 days ago.
Now Munesh’s murderer was in front of the police. But there were many questions too?
- Why did Lokesh do this?
- Who else was involved in this incident along with him? How was the planning done and how was it executed?
- Why the drama of Munesh’s disappearance? And the most important question is where is Munesh’s body?
