Ravichandran Ashwin Retirement: Ravichandran Ashwin’s name will be taken among the greatest players in the history of cricket. Ashwin, who retired from cricket after taking 765 wickets at the international level, had taken a vow many years ago, after which he had thrashed the batsmen of the England team. Actually, BCCI has released a video in honor of R Ashwin, in which this Indian legend has shared some memories of his brilliant career.
This is from the year 2012 when a four-match Test series was played between India and England in the month of November-December. India had lost 2-1 in this home series. After this series, Ashwin had pledged that he would never let India lose the series against England.
Ashwin’s pledge weighs heavily on England
In the video released by BCCI, Ashwin said, “I had taken a pledge in the year 2012. We had lost the series at the hands of England. That was the initial phase of my career and I told myself that we will never lose a home series again. No matter how many wickets you have taken in 10 years, you will not remember them.
Let us tell you that in 2012, India lost a home series for the first time in 8 years. After Ashwin’s pledge, the Indian team achieved such success that it created a record of winning 18 consecutive home series. Ashwin had a very important contribution in these memorable victories because after that he played 53 Test matches on home grounds and took 320 wickets in 53 matches. Unfortunately, Ashwin was also a part of the home series played in 2024, in which Team India had to suffer a crushing defeat of 0-3 at the hands of New Zealand. Ashwin also told in this video that he never thought that he would be able to take so many (765) wickets in his career.
