- Reliance Power to build bhutan’s largest solar project in ₹ 2,000 CR Joint Venture

Anil Ambani -led Reliance Power will form the country’s largest solar power project in a joint venture of Rs 2,000 crore in collaboration with Bhutan’s Dract Holding and Investments (DHI). The 500 MW (MW) project will be developed under the 50:50 partnerships through a build-on-operate (BOO) model.
The project is expected to be the biggest private sector’s foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bhutan’s solar sector. Reliance Power has signed a commercial term sheet for the Long-Term Paper Pault Agreement (PPA) with DHI-owned Unit Green Digital Private Limited.

Electricity will be sold to green digital
The company said in a statement, “Reliance Power’s Total Clean Energy Pipeline is on 2.5 GW Peak (GWP) in the solar segment, which makes it India’s largest company in the Integrated Solar and Battery Energe System System (BESS) segment.”
The company said that electricity will be sold to green digital through a long-term agreement. Reliance Power has started searching for contractors through a competitive bidding process to start the project work.
India-Bhutan energy relations promote
The project follows a joint venture between Reliance Enterprises-Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure and a wide strategic partnership established in October 2024 between DHI, Bhutan.
This agreement included joint development of 500 MW solar plant as well as an examination and operation plans of the 770 MW Chamkharchu-I Hydroelectric Project of 770 MW.
