Gautam Gambhir Morne Morkel Controversy: After losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, everything related to the performance of the Indian team is being reviewed. Every small and big incident that happened during the Australia tour is being discussed. Recently a new case related to Australia tour has come to light. This matter is related to the tension between Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel during the Australia tour. Now BCCI is investigating this incident so that there is no hindrance in the functioning of the team.
According to a Times of India report, tension increased on the Australia tour when bowling coach Morne Morkel arrived late for the training session due to a personal meeting. On this, head coach Gautam Gambhir reprimanded him on the field itself.
A source said, “Seriously is very strict about discipline. He scolded Morkel immediately. After this, Morkel remained silent and a bit isolated throughout the tour. Now it is up to both the coaches to resolve the matter and help the team. Get in sync.”
According to the report, after this incident BCCI is reviewing the functioning of the coaching staff. The board is asking the senior players how much the coaching staff is contributing to the success of the team. Especially questions are being raised on batting coach Abhishek Nair. Veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also questioned Nair’s role when Virat Kohli was getting out in the same manner again and again.
Questions are also being raised on the role of assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate. He lacks international experience, and concerns have been raised about his contribution to the team’s performance. BCCI is now considering limiting the contract period of support staff to two to three years. A source said, “The board feels that continuing in coaching for a long time could lead to loyalty issues. However, the role of the throwdown specialist has been very beneficial for the team.”
