India Pakistan Trade: Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has given an important statement regarding trade with Pakistan. He has said that India did not stop trade with Pakistan but Pakistan itself had started it.
S Jaishankar said this during a press conference on his American tour. In this press conference held in Washington DC on Wednesday (January 22), when S. Jaishankar was asked about trade with Pakistan, he clearly said that we did not stop trade, it was his decision.
S Jaishankar said, ‘We did not stop the business. It was their administration that decided not to do business with us in 2019. During this time, he also reiterated his concern that India gave Most Favored Nation (MFN) status to Pakistan, but Pakistan did not keep India in this status. He said, ‘We have been concerned about this matter since the beginning. We should get MFN status from Pakistan. We have always been giving him this status, but he never gave it to us in return.
,Neither did they take the initiative, nor did we.
During this, S Jaishankar also expressed his views regarding the lack of mutual discussion for trade between the two countries. He said, ‘At present, neither any initiative has been taken from our side regarding trade nor any such talks have been started from Pakistan’s side. S Jaishankar is currently on American tour. He had reached there on the occasion of Donald Trump’s swearing-in. After this he participated in the Quad meeting. He also had bilateral talks with America’s new Foreign Minister Marco Rubio.
