SA 20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith believes that this T20 league will provide South Africa with the same talent that the IPL has provided to India. The third season of the SA20 begins on Thursday and Smith believes the league will continue to contribute to South Africa’s success.
Former South African captain Smith told PTI, “I have been saying from the beginning that I want to contribute in preparing players for the South African cricket team.”
He said, “Unfortunately the gap between domestic cricket and international cricket is very deep and I think SA20 can reduce that gap.” This is giving our players a chance to play with the best players in the world. The teams have excellent coaches and physios.
Smith said that SA20 has given South Africa new fans of cricket and domestic cricketers are also getting the experience of playing at the international level. He said, “If we talk about viewership and TV production, many of our domestic cricketers would have never seen anything like this before.”
Smith said, “This will produce 30, 40 or 50 players who will be in the race to play for the country.” Just like India has got.” South Africa has entered the finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 World Test Championship and Smith said he is happy with the rising graph of cricket in the country.
He said, “I am happy that progress is being made in the right direction.” Three-four years ago there were a lot of problems in South African cricket, so it is good to see the team progressing.
