South Korea Plane Crash: A plane carrying 181 people met with an accident on Sunday (29 December 2024) at Muan International Airport in South Korea. Reuters quoted Yonhap news agency as saying that about 179 people have died in this accident. Two people were found alive during rescue operations at Muan Airport. The accident occurred at 9:07 a.m. when the Jeju Air plane skidded off the runway during landing and crashed into a fence wall at Muan International Airport, Yonhap news agency reported.
Jeju Airlines apologized
After this accident, Korea’s Jeju Airlines is issuing a statement that we bow our heads and apologize to all those who have suffered losses for the Muan Airport accident. The statement said, “We regret any inconvenience caused from our side. First of all, we will make every effort to resolve the accident.” Jeju Air is currently operating a company-wide emergency response system. “Our company has formed a support staff for the bereaved families and provided assistance to the casualties and their families,” the statement said.
Company issued helpline number
The company has issued two numbers for the families of domestic and foreign citizens. The number 080-898-1500 has been issued for domestic passengers and +82-1599-8629 for foreign passengers. A total of 181 people, including six crew members, were on board the plane returning from Bangkok. Except for two Thai citizens, most of the passengers on the plane were from Korea. Videos broadcast by local TV stations showed the plane attempting to land without the landing gear deployed.
Officials suspect that a landing gear malfunction may have been caused by a bird strike, which could have caused the accident. Officials have started investigation to find out the cause of the accident. Regarding this accident, the President of Korea will call an emergency meeting of top officials at 11:30 am, so that the government response to the plane crash can be discussed. (with input agency)
