Space Junk Risk for Earth: Space debris outside the Earth is continuously increasing. Experts have warned of a threat to life on Earth due to increasing space debris. Space physics expert Dr Ian Whittaker of Nottingham Trent University has warned that space debris moving around outside the Earth can pose a major threat to the Earth. This garbage is rotating in space at a very high speed, due to which it can become fatal for humans.
An example of this was recently seen in Mukuku village in Kenya. The space ring of the 2008 Ariane rocket launch has fallen on the ground in Mukuku village in Kenya. This incident in Kenya has once again drawn everyone’s attention towards the danger posed by increasing space debris to the Earth.
,A fast falling object causes more damage., Dr. Whittaker
According to the Express report, Dr. Whittaker said, “As the garbage in space is increasing, the danger to the Earth is also increasing.” He said, “It is true that the probability of someone being hit by falling space junk is very low at present, but this probability will increase in the coming years. The risk of loss of life and property is very high. Because when something falls downwards at a high speed, the damage caused is also huge. So we have to pay attention to this.”
,Can destroy even a big building,
Doctor Whittaker further said, “The space debris spread in the Earth’s orbit rotates at a speed of 8 km per second (18000 mph), but its speed slows down when it enters the atmosphere. However, it will still continue to move at a speed of about 100 meters per second (200+ miles per hour). If something like the Ariane Separation Ring falls in a densely populated urban area, it can easily destroy even a large building. In which there is a danger of human life also being lost.”
Whittaker said, “The number of rocket and satellite launches from Earth has increased significantly. This has also increased space debris.”
