Tajikistan-Iran Chabahar Port Deal: Pakistan is already struggling with the attacks of Taliban army and TTP terrorists, and now another bad news has come for it. Tajikistan has started talks with Iran regarding the use of Chabahar Port built on the Indian side. If this deal is successful, it will be a big diplomatic victory for India, while it can prove to be a big blow for Pakistan.
If this agreement is signed between Tajikistan and Iran, it will provide three important benefits to India.
Easy access to Central Asia: By using Chabahar Port, India can increase its reach to Tajikistan and other Central Asian countries, which will accelerate trade and commerce.
Economic Benefits: India will get good economic benefits from the traffic through Chabahar Port, because India has invested crores of dollars in the construction of this port.
Strengthening regional diplomacy: This agreement will further strengthen India’s position in Central Asia, which can prove to be a big diplomatic blow for Pakistan.
Tajikistan’s plan through Chabahar Port
Tajikistan and Iran have recently signed a cooperation agreement, under which movement of goods will be carried out through Chabahar Port. Tajikistan aims to promote trade with the Gulf countries and the Indian Ocean region, and for this Chabahar Port can play an important role. Earlier, Tajikistan had also announced the use of Iran’s Bandar Abbas Port, but now the use of Chabahar Port may become a priority for Tajikistan, as it is more strategically important for India.
Big blow to Pakistan
This deal will be a big blow for Pakistan, which was recently trying to pit Tajikistan against the Taliban. The chief of Pakistan’s ISI had visited Tajikistan and met the leaders of the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance. Pakistan was trying to get Tajikistan to form a strong security alliance against Taliban, but Tajikistan did not take any step in this direction.
Improving relations between Tajikistan and Taliban
Although relations between Tajikistan and Taliban have not been cordial yet, relations between the two are gradually improving. Tajikistan plays an important role in Afghanistan, as a large number of people of Tajik origin live there. However, Tajikistan has made it clear that it will not form any security alliance against Taliban at the behest of Pakistan.
India-Tajikistan’s old friendship
There is a decades-old friendship between India and Tajikistan, and this deal will further strengthen this friendship. Trade cooperation through Chabahar Port will give a new direction to the relations between India and Tajikistan. Besides, Tajikistan’s gradually improving relations with the Taliban will also help in bringing stability in the region.
Chabahar Port Deal
If the Chabahar Port deal between Tajikistan and Iran is successful, it will be a major diplomatic and economic victory for India. At the same time, Pakistan’s strategic plans will be deeply shaken by this, especially in view of the improving relations between Tajikistan and Taliban.
