Vijay Hazare Trophy: After a long wait and writing a despairing social media post about three years ago, Karun Nair made a spectacular comeback on the cricket field, scoring five centuries in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and said that after eight years, the dream of wearing the Indian jersey is still within him. It’s happening.
Nair scored 752 runs for Vidarbha in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. This is the same Karun Nair who wrote three years ago, “Dear Cricket, please give me one more chance.” Will he get a chance for the ODI series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy when the selectors sit to choose India’s ODI team? ?
Only time will tell but they have every right to dream. Nair told PTI, “It has always been a dream to play for India.” That dream is still alive. This is what we play for. The only aim is to play for the country.” Nair, who has faced many ups and downs in his career, does not want to think too far ahead.
He said, “I think this is my third comeback.” I have to continue this rhythm. Have to score runs in every match. That’s all I can do. Everything is not in my hands.” He said, ”Until I get selected, this is just a dream.” But I would like to focus on one innings at a time.
Asked what he did to get runs back, the 33-year-old Nair said, “I didn’t do anything different.” There is no secret. This is the result of years of hard work and patience. I take every day as a new challenge and try to give my best.”
There was a time when he was apprehensive about his future because runs were not being scored in domestic matches and IPL. Regarding this, Nair said, “If I say that I was not scared, it would be a lie.” Everyone must be feeling the same but I never thought that my career would be over. All I used to think was, in which direction is this going, what am I doing, why is this happening.
He said, “It took time to come out of that phase and then I told myself that I would have to start afresh.” I gave myself some time and learned a lot about myself and my game. I am grateful for those lessons, without them I would not be in this position.
Nair also said that the decision to leave Karnataka and play for Vidarbha was the right one. He said, “I am thankful that I got a chance to play for Vidarbha. Without the platform and environment he gave me, I would not have reached here.
