Shivpal Singh Yadav: Shivpal Yadav has raised the demand to prove majority on behalf of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre. This demand has gained momentum after voting on One Nation-One Election Bill. The ‘One Nation-One Election’ bill has been tabled in Parliament and is now to be sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). However, the voting on this bill introduced in the Lok Sabha has raised many questions, because the ruling party did not even get the required majority (272) to run a government. After less votes for the ruling party in One Nation-One Election, the opposition has now started looking for an opportunity for itself. Opposition leaders have started demanding to prove majority in the House.
After voting on the ‘One Nation One Election’ bill, Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav says – ‘Yesterday BJP came into minority regarding One Nation One Election. First they should see their majority. Our demand is that they should first prove their majority. Shivpal Yadav also replied regarding the opposition alliance. He said that the opposition alliance is completely united.
269 votes were cast in favor of the bill in Lok Sabha
Voting took place in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday on the bill providing for simultaneous elections of Lok Sabha and Assembly in the country. During the division of votes in the Lower House, members cast their votes through electronic means for the first time in the new Parliament House. Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal tabled the ‘Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill 2024’ and the related ‘Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024’ in the House, providing for simultaneous holding of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the country. During this, there was huge protest from the opposition parties. In the division of votes, 269 members voted in favor of introducing the bill and 196 voted against it.
The surprising thing is that during the division of votes on the bill introduced by the government, 20 MPs from the ruling party remained absent. It is said that these 20 MPs included Union Ministers Giriraj Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Jyotiraditya Scindia and CR Patil. Apart from him, Shantanu Thakur, Jagdambika Pal, BY Raghavendra, Vijay Baghel, Udayaraje Bhosle, Jagannath Sarkar, Jayant Kumar Roy, V Somanna, Chintamani Maharaj were also not present in the House. However, opposition parties have now started cornering the government regarding this.
