Uttar Pradesh fast bowler Ankit Rajput on Monday announced his retirement from Indian cricket at the age of 31 to explore opportunities in foreign T20 leagues. Rajput, who recently represented Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy, made this announcement on social media.
Rajput wrote on social media, “Today, with immense gratitude and humility, I announce my retirement from Indian cricket. My cricket journey from 2009 to 2024 has been the best time of my life. I express my gratitude to the Indian Cricket Board, Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association and Kanpur Cricket Association for providing me the opportunity.
Rajput also expressed his gratitude to the five IPL teams Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants that he has been a part of.
Former Indian fast bowler Siddharth Kaul also said goodbye to domestic cricket last month. Like him, Rajput is also exploring possibilities in T20 leagues around the world. Any active cricketer associated with the Indian Cricket Board cannot participate in foreign leagues. Rajput took 248 wickets in 80 matches in first-class cricket, 71 wickets in 50 matches in List A and 105 wickets in 87 matches in T20.
