High level talks took place after the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina
The foreign secretaries of India and Bangladesh held high-level talks on Monday amid strained bilateral relations between the two countries following the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reached Dhaka in an Indian Air Force aircraft for a one-day visit.
Soon after his arrival in Dhaka, Misri met his Bangladeshi counterpart Mohammad Jashim Uddin and held one-on-one talks before a formal meeting with representatives of both sides. This is the first high-level visit by an Indian official since Hasina was ousted on August 5.
What did Bangladesh say?
A Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry official said, “The meeting between our Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin and his counterpart Vikram Misri is being held as per schedule at the State Guest House Padma. First they had a brief face-to-face talk and then both sides met. “The formal meeting with the representatives has begun.”
