Virat Kohli Return Domestic Cricket: Virat Kohli is under criticism due to his poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. So much so that the pressure on him to take retirement is increasing. Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Kohli can play county cricket to prepare for the Test series against England in June 2025. It is worth noting that Virat will be able to play county cricket in the same situation, if Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) does not reach the playoffs of IPL 2025. Earlier, Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has also stressed on the importance of domestic cricket.
According to RevSportz, Kohli will play county cricket, but he can do so only if RCB does not go to the playoffs. Since the final of IPL 2025 is to be played on 25th May and the India-England first Test will start from 20th June in Leeds. If Bengaluru reaches the final, Kohli will have only 14 days left to adapt to the conditions in England and play county cricket. This will probably prove insufficient for good preparation.
In order to improve their game at the international level, some international cricketers have already given up franchise cricket. Pat Cummins did this in the year 2023, when he took a break from IPL 2023 to prepare for the World Test Championship final against India. His break also proved to be good because under his captaincy, Australia won the World Test Championship title by defeating Team India by 209 runs.
RCB retained for 21 crores
RCB had retained Virat Kohli for Rs 21 crore for IPL 2025. With this, he became the fifth most expensive player of IPL 2025. Since Kohli will be leading the batting line-up of Bengaluru and his absence will probably make the RCB squad very weak. In such a situation, there seems to be little hope that Kohli will miss the entire or half of the IPL 2025 season.
