Now Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has also given a sharp statement on this issue and emphasized on religious and social unity. In response to a question by news agency ANI, Arif Mohammad Khan said that violence in the name of religion may not be justified under any circumstances. Whatever the situation, if someone will try to divide the society or spread violence, the punishment has also been mentioned in the Quran. The Governor of Bihar has given a strict message about the violence in Murshidabad with this reply.
While the opposition is constantly questioning the security system on the state government, Arif Mohammad Khan’s remarks have further intensified the debate on communal harmony and constitutional responsibility. Earlier, Governor CV Anand Bose and High Court have also expressed concern over the law and order of the state, and the need for deployment of central forces has been stated. Arif Mohammad Khan, in response to an ANI question, said, “Whatever the situation, whoever tries to divide people, it is written in the Quran that he will be punished.”

The violence erupted during the protest against the Waqf Amendment Act in Murshidabad district of West Bengal has now taken serious political colors. Incidents of death and dozens of injuries have come to light in this violence. The death of Hargovind Das and his son Chandan Das, especially killed in Jafarabad area of Shamsherganj, has brought the entire incident to the center of political debate. The bodies of these two were recovered from their house with severe knife wounds, showing the ruthlessness of violence. In view of this sensitive matter, West Bengal Governor C.V. Anand Bose recently visited violence-affected areas and met the victim families.
Governor confident of help to victim families
The governor assured the family members of all possible help and justice. During the meeting, the family clearly demanded the CBI inquiry and accused the state government of poor security arrangements.
Political circles are seeing sharp reactions about this visit. Opposition parties have accused the state government of appeasement politics and said that law and order has completely failed. At the same time, the state government claims that the situation is under control and more than 138 people have been arrested. But the governor’s presence at the scene indicates that the matter has now become a matter of public trust and constitutional accountability, not just law and order.
How was violence in Murshidabad?
Some people in Murshidabad, West Bengal, against the Waqf Amendment Act, had gathered in the name of protesting against this law. According to the affidavit filed in the Calcutta High Court of the state government regarding this violence, it was reported that a crowd of about 10,000 people had gathered for the protest of the Waqf Amendment Act on the day of the violence. Many of this crowd also had deadly weapons. These protesters also attacked the police with these weapons, which led the police to save their officers. A person in the crowd of this protesters also snatched the revolver of the policeman deployed for security. The mob blocked the National Highway and became furious in a short time. This mob also set fire to police vehicles.
