How dangerous is GBS?
According to the US National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare neurological disease. In this, peripheral nerves get damaged and swelling occurs. According to NINDS, the risk of blood clotting, cardiac arrest and infection increases in GBS patients. Every year around 7.5% of patients suffering from this die in the world. 20% patients have to go on ventilator and 25% patients are unable to walk for at least 6 months.

Symptoms of Guillain Barrie Syndrome
palpitations
swelling on face
difficulty breathing
difficulty walking
blurred vision
problem in turning the neck
body pain with pricking sensation
Weakness and tremors in arms and legs
Treatment of Guillain-Barré Syndrome
1. Plasma exchange- This is a process in which immune system cells are removed from the blood and replaced with fresh plasma.
2. Immunoglobulin- This is a type of protein, which helps in suppressing the immune system.
3. Corticosteroids- This is a medicine, which is used in improving the immune system.
4. Physiotherapy. In this, an attempt is made to increase the strength of muscles and joints.
5. Vocational therapy. This treatment method helps in everyday activities.
6. Pain Management- This helps in controlling pain.
