Champions trophy 2025 teams: The International Cricket Council (ICC) started the Champions Trophy tournament in 1998. Now it is going to be organized for the ninth time in the year 2025, in which the top-8 teams of the world are going to participate. The teams involved in the tournament have been divided into two groups of four each. The first group consists of India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh, while the second group includes Australia, England, South Africa and Afghanistan. But the names of two veteran teams like Sri Lanka and West Indies are not included in this tournament. So let’s know how the ICC has selected teams for the Champions Trophy?

When the Champions Trophy was first organized for the first time in 1998, 9 teams were recognized to play Test matches. All 9 teams participated in the Champions Trophy, but before going to the knockout stage, there was a preliminary match between New Zealand and Zimbabwe, in which the Kiwi team got entry into the knockout stage by winning. Well, more than 25 years have passed for those things and now the selection process of the Champions Trophy has changed a lot.

Why Sri Lanka and West Indies are out

When it was decided to bring back the Champions Trophy in the year 2025, it was announced that it would be able to qualify 8 teams which would finish the first eight places after the conclusion of the 2023 ODIs. India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa directly qualified for the Champions Trophy by going to the World Cup semi -finals. At the same time, the remaining four teams were decided on the basis of points table. Apart from India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, four teams qualified in the Champions Trophy were Pakistan, Afghanistan, England and Bangladesh.

As far as Sri Lanka is concerned, it was ranked 9th in the 2023 World Cup points table. In this way Sri Lanka failed to qualify for the Champions Trophy. Talking about the West Indies, she had failed to qualify for the World Cup as well. Therefore, it became possible to play his Champions Trophy in 2025.
