- World Bank Report: India Pulls 27 Crore out of Extreme Poverty in 11 years

In India, in 11 years, 269 million, or about 27 crore people have come out of extreme power. The World Bank has said this in one of its reports. According to the latest data of the World Bank, the extra-powered rate has come down from 27.1% to only 5.3% in 2022-23 in 2011-12.
At the same time, the number of people living in excessive poverty in 11 years has come down from 344.47 million (34.44 crore) to 75.24 million (7.52 crore). According to this, 269 million people were taken out of excessive poverty.
Two-thirds contribution of Panj states in poverty reduction
This progress has been seen in the last decade due to the policy initiative and economic reforms in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s lidarship. According to the data, in five states- Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, 65% of the country had extremely poor people in 2011-12. Now these Panj states have contributed two-thirds of the decrease in national poverty by 2022-23.
Excessive poverty in cities decreased from 10.7% to 1.1%
The World Bank has assessed poverty according to the International Potty Line of $ 3.00 per day (2021 prices). This indicates a sharp decline in poverty in both rural and urban areas. During the same period, excessive poverty in rural areas declined from 18.4% to 2.8% percent, while excessive poverty in urban areas has come down from 10.7% to 1.1%.
If seen as per the pre-$ 2.15 per day (2017 prices), the poverty rate has come down from 16.2% in 2011-12 to just 2.3% in 2022. The number of Indians living below this border has come down from 205.93 million (20.59 crore) of 2011 to 33.66 million (3.36 crore) in 2022.
Multidimensional power also decreased from 53.8% to 15.5%
India has also achieved great success in reducing multidimensional power. The Multidimensional Potty Index (MPI) indicates a decrease in health, education and standard of living. Multidimensional power was 53.8% in 2005-06, declined to 16.4% in 2019-21 and 15.5% in 2022-23.
This achievement is a big step towards creating poverty -free nation: PM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described this achievement as the result of schemes like PM Awas Yojana, PM Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana and Ayushman Bharat. These initiatives of the government have expanded the reach of people to housing, clean cooking fuel, banking services and healthcare.
PM Modi said that in the last 11 years, the Central Government started several schemes, paying attention to Infrastructure, Digital Inclusion and Transparency, which the poor have got direct benefits. People got homes from the housing scheme, clean LPG connection with Ujjwala scheme, bank account from Jan Dhan Yojana and free treatment from Ayushman Bharat.
Apart from this, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), digital services and work related to rural development also made the poor economically empower. The Prime Minister said that with all these efforts, more than 25 crore people have been able to get out of poverty. This achievement is a big step towards making India a poverty -free nation.
