On the second day, Zimbabwe started progressing its innings with a score of 386. Shaun Williams had scored a century on the very first day. He scored 154 runs in an innings studded with 10 fours and 3 sixes, which is also the highest score of his career in Test matches. On the other hand, on the second day of the match, Craig Irwin excelled and scored a lot of runs especially against spin bowling. Irwin’s innings ended on the score of 104 runs.
Zimbabwe created history
Before the match against Afghanistan, Zimbabwe’s highest score in a single innings of a Test match was 563 runs, which it made against West Indies in 2001. Now 23 years later, Zimbabwe has improved its own record and scored 586 runs in the first innings.
After Williams and Irwin, Brian Bennett took command, who came to bat at seventh position. Let us tell you that Bennett was playing only the second Test match of his career, but as soon as he arrived, he started scoring runs rapidly. Thanks to his unbeaten inning of 110 runs, Zimbabwe was successful in crossing the mark of 550 runs. This century of Bennett was also in the news, a catch was declared a six when the replays found that the fielder’s foot was touching the boundary line. By the end of the second day’s play, Afghanistan had scored 95 runs at the loss of 2 wickets.
