Cumin crop was sown in a field in Gudamalani area, whose germination stopped due to heat.
In view of the Rabi season in the district, there has been bumper sowing this time. Against the Agriculture Department’s target of 4.17 lakh hectares, farmers have sown in 411273 hectares. Due to high price of cumin last year, farmers are showing more inclination towards cumin crop.
,
Against the Agriculture Department’s target of 4 thousand hectares, Taramira has been sown in a minimum of 450 hectares. Crops including mustard, wheat and gram have been sown in the district. This time the weather has supported us and bumper production is expected in the Rabi season in the district. Although the farmer sowed cumin on Diwali in view of Rabi season, this time due to late arrival of winter the cumin did not germinate.
If winter increases then there will be good yield
The effect of winter has started increasing in the district. The environment is favorable during Rabi season. If winter lasts for 15 to 20 days, crops will grow well. There is a possibility of increasing cold from 10th to 11th December. This season will be favorable for crops. The farmers who sowed cumin between 15th and 20th November have seen germination. Earlier, cumin seeds could not germinate due to heat. In such a situation, farmers sowed cumin again. A minimum temperature of 5 to 9 degrees is required for the germination of cumin.
Hopes of many broken due to lack of agricultural connection
Due to the overloaded system of Discom, these days farmers are getting 2 to 2.5 hours of electricity instead of 6 hours. At the same time, farmers are troubled by unannounced power cuts due to the spread of DISCOM system. Protests by farmers are continuing in many areas of the district.
In such a situation, there is not enough water for barren based irrigated crops in Rabi season. In such a situation, there is sadness on the faces of the farmers. On the other hand, applications from farmers for agricultural connections have been submitted since 2016. The demand amount was also deposited by their farmers two years ago but the Discom is not releasing the connections on the pretext of expansion of the system. In such a situation, troubled farmers are seen making rounds of DISCOMs.
Cumin seeds could not germinate completely due to heat
“Farmers who sowed cumin before 15 to 20 November could not germinate due to extreme heat. In such a situation, cumin was sown again at some places. The crop will require water after 25 to 30 days. Now power cuts can become a big problem. It is favorable to sow wheat at 18-19 degrees and cumin at 25 degrees.”
